FAQ — Fitment, Installation & Shipping
Questions, answered straight.
Everything buyers ask us about D2 Off-Road rock sliders — fitment, installation, materials, and shipping.
Do D2 Off-Road rock sliders require drilling or welding?
No welding, ever. The 4Runner sliders are 100% bolt-on using factory frame holes — no drilling at all. The Tacoma sliders are bolt-on with minimal drilling: two holes per side. All Grade 10.9 mounting hardware is included with both.
Which Toyota 4Runner models do the sliders fit?
Our 4Runner rock sliders fit most 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runners (5th Generation). They do not fit the Limited trim or the 2022 Sport. On 2010–2013 models, the lower cladding must be removed before installation.
Which Toyota Tacoma models do the sliders fit?
Our Tacoma rock sliders fit 2005–2015 (2nd Gen) and 2016–2023 (3rd Gen) Toyota Tacomas, in both Access Cab and Double Cab configurations. Installation requires drilling two holes per side.
Are these real rock sliders or just side steps?
Real rock sliders. They're built from .120" wall DOM (drawn-over-mandrel) steel tubing with .188" gusseted frame mounting plates, designed to take direct rock impacts and support the weight of the truck. The step function is a bonus — frame and rocker protection is the job.
What's the difference between DOM and HREW tubing?
DOM (drawn-over-mandrel) tubing starts as electric-welded tube that's then cold-drawn over a mandrel, which refines the weld seam and produces more uniform, stronger walls. Cheaper sliders often use plain HREW tubing, which is more prone to folding under point impacts. We use .120" wall DOM exclusively.
Do the sliders come as a pair or individually?
Every listing is for a pair — driver and passenger side — with all mounting hardware included. Each slider weighs about 65 lbs with step plates fitted.
Can I paint or wrap the step plates?
Yes. The step plates are removable, so you can paint, powder coat, or wrap them in any color and bolt them back on. It's an easy way to match the sliders to your build.
How do the sliders hold up to rust and corrosion?
Every set gets a dual-layer finish: an e-coat base that seals the bare steel, topped with powder coat. That combination resists rock rash, road salt, mud, and UV far better than paint alone.
How fast do orders ship?
In-stock sliders ship in 2–3 business days. Because each set weighs around 130 lbs, they ship freight — you'll receive tracking as soon as your order leaves the shop.
What tools do I need to install rock sliders?
Basic hand tools: a socket set, torque wrench, and a jack. For the Tacoma sliders you'll also need a drill for the two holes per side. A second set of hands (or a jack to support the slider during mounting) helps — each slider is about 65 lbs. No welding on either platform.
